Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for Hockey to assist the current Director of Hockey and help lead our busy, thriving, and high-profile department from September 2024.Purpose of the role:To assist the Director of Hockey implement and lead the overall strategic direction of Hockey across the whole school (students aged 8-18).Key Duties and Responsibilities:Strategy• To work with the Director of Hockey to produce and implement an ambitious Hockey Development Plan, covering all aspects of Taunton School’s Hockey Programme• Working towards performance standards and targets throughout the school, as agreed with the Directors of Sport• To be accountable for the Hockey provision within the Prep School, with regular reviews on progress, performance, and delivery of additional support for individual players, teams and coaching staff• To strengthen links between Taunton School and other Hockey organisations including local clubs, specifically Taunton Vale through active involvement with their coaching programme, enhancing the school’s Hockey reputation and supporting recruitment of appropriate students into the school.Coaching• To have experience either playing at a prominent level or coached at a high level and to be able to deliver appropriate coaching to students who aspire to play at this level. To demonstrate the drive to further their own coaching qualifications to the highest possible standard.• To lead the staff coaching hockey and to be the principal Hockey Coach throughout the Taunton Prep School system• To deliver the Hockey Programme through coaching appropriate teams and to establish support programmes for the development of coaching staff and players.• Supporting current students throughout the school at all external fixtures, including tournaments• To organise appropriate training programmes for all players, including leadership of pre-season /whole year programmes in conjunction with the Directors of Sport and Director of Hockey• To support and encourage all staff coaching or teaching Hockey, through the provision of INSET and the through delivery to the students.• To support games teaching and to lead / coach teams as required by the Head of Hockey• Work with the Director of Hockey in creating and engaging with opportunities to extend core sports training through school clubs, specifically pre-season programmes.• To coach at an agreed external hockey programme, enhancing the reputation of Taunton School Hockey.• To support the Prep school Saturday morning enrichment activity.Administration• To arrange staffing for Hockey in conjunction with the TPS Director of Sport and Head of Hockey.• To develop practical Schemes of Work, focused on the development and progression of Hockey under the guidance of the Director of Hockey.• To ensure high standards of coaching in Hockey through the provision of appropriate training opportunities, observation and feedback of sessions and the promotion of clinics support staff professional learning• To manage and co-ordinate a full series of fixtures for Prep School Hockey, including SOCS administration, transport and catering arrangements, and first aid provision• To contribute to the appraisal process for staff responsible for coaching Hockey• To liaise and communicate proactively with parents and other key stakeholders regarding the Hockey programme at Taunton School and Taunton Prep School• To work with the Estates Teams to ensure facilities and pitches are organised for both training sessions and matches• To support the Director of Hockey with managing the budget for the purchasing or replacement of equipment as necessary, entry to all competitions and subscriptions, as required.• To assist the Director of Hockey in developing a database of local umpires that supports the provision of umpiring across the Whole School.Enrichment and Extension• To be responsible for the organisation of regular enrichment and extension opportunities for students to compete at all levels, including organisation and/or support with national and international tours• Assume responsibility for the organisation of Prep School House Hockey Competitions• To assist with the Sports Scholarship Programme, including assessment of scholarship candidates• Attendance at the Heads of Sport Meetings, INSET days and staff meetings is expected. Provide opportunities for sports tours, book domestically and internationally.Marketing and Outreach• To support the Directors of Sport in the recruitment of specialist Hockey Scholars• To develop and promote Hockey through the School’s Marketing Department and appropriate external bodies• To contribute to the writing of reports and stories that the school can use to celebrate success in Hockey• To work alongside Marketing and the School’s Outreach Co-ordinator to promote sports events and festivals, taster days and recruitment drives• To foster links with external clubs and programmes, including Feeder Preparatory and Primary schools, delivering specialised coaching sessions.Additional aspects• Supporting the delivery of a summer term sport in the prep and senior school games programme.• A willingness to actively engage in professional development opportunities, including further coaching qualifications.• Occasional use as an Assistant Form Tutor in Taunton Prep School.
