Assistant Director of Finance and Governance (Section 151 Officer)

We’re looking for an innovative Assistant Director Future to drive Basildon forward through high-level leadership and strategic know-how and unlock our Borough’s significant economic potential.
It’s a hugely exciting role. As our new AD Future, you’ll manage the Council’s Policy and Strategy Delivery; Communications, Events and Public Affairs; and Economic Development. Reporting to the Strategic Director of Sustainable Futures, you’ll play a leading role in the promotion of the Basildon brand by building the right partnerships and proactively promoting the borough to manage and continually improve Basildon’s reputation. You’ll also implement an exemplary corporate communications strategy and manage our public affairs and media relations through narrative building and storytelling.
The right candidate will have extensive leadership experience across a range of cross-cutting disciplines, including planning, regeneration, digital development, policy, communication, and external affairs. You’ll have likely worked in a council in the past – perhaps a combined authority – and you’ll understand how to balance external growth with major internal transformation.
