Position Summary
Reports to the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) – Design Subcontracts.
Assist the Project(s) Engineering Manager and the Project Engineer(s) in the supervision of the Life Safety Systems (LSS) and Telecommunications (IT) engineering activities as necessary on the project. Under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager and/or Project Engineer(s), assists in the planning and directing of engineering assignments for the project(s). Has responsibilities for interfacing with other execution centers (if utilised), interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating the assignments/tasks associated with the project. Works directly with Bechtel customer(s) and senior management on matters relating to project LSS and Telecommunications engineering progress, quality, scope and technical/permitting issues. Directs the establishment of work process integration and systems implementation for the programmatic design process. Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the Specialty Technologies pertinent to the project and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the LSS/IT engineering effort. Champions the creation of a work environment, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction on the project.
Typical Responsibilities
Assists the PEM - Design Subcontracts with the supervision of LSS/Telecom engineering activity on a semiconductor project. Plans and directs third party engineering assignments. Has technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating third party LSS/Telecom engineering assignments related to a semiconductor Fab facility.
Supervises the preparation of subcontract requisitions.
May exercise operational supervision over assigned third party engineering subcontractors.
As directed, manages the complex organizational interactions that evolve from the participation of several Bechtel entities on the project or from client-established relationships with other contractors.
Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to the project and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the engineering effort.
Requires a broad knowledge of administrative practices.
Establishes the detailed project scope, including basic engineering criteria and assumptions.
Responsible for project engineering schedules and budgets and plays a major role in the total installed cost of the entire facility.
Responsible for maintaining the quality of design and making the facility safe for construction and operations personnel.
Travels on business to the jobsite and subcontractor offices as required.
Champions the creation of a work environment, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction on the project.
May assist the PEM – Design Subcontracts in conducting annual performance reviews in accordance with approved procedures and holds career development discussions.
Skills and Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Requires relevant LSS/IT design engineering experience including supervisory/leadership experience on several medium size projects or designated portions of a very large or complicated projects.
Technical knowledge of Life Safety and Telecommunications specialty systems.
Familiar with relevant calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Candidates responding to this posting must currently possess the eligibility to work and remain in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
NICET 3 Certification
Experience in semiconductor Fab unit engineering systems.
A recognized degree in an engineering specialty technologies discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience in Manufacturing and Technology business.
Experience managing engineering subcontracts.
Previous Bechtel experience.
