Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

Reporting To Job Title

Senior or Quantity Surveyor

Purpose

During the years of training, the Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will assist the Quantity Surveyors with the fiscal and contractual administration of projects carried out.

Specific Responsibilities

Learn and understand the United Way of working, ensuring that the processes are complied with and adopted into your daily disciplines.
Act in a professional manner in everything you do such that the Company’s reputation is enhancedUnder close and constant supervision of their line manager:

Procurement
Prepare and issue subcontract enquiries or trade packages including taking off quantities from drawings
Assist in the analysis, assessment and comparison of subcontractors' quotations
Assist in drafting of subcontract orders

Main Contract
Assist in the evaluation of C.V.I's and contract Instructions.
Assist in preparation of monthly valuation
Evaluate materials on site

Subcontract
Site Measurement of different trades
Assist in the evaluation of monthly payment applications
Payment to Subcontractors on the finance system
Assist in preparation of details for subcontractor Final Accounts.

Financial
Competent use of company cost system
Prepare supporting information for the monthly CVR.

Admin
File and distribute documents and drawings.
Working closely with members of the site team to ensure that all instructions are collated.

Other
Ensure that you do not commit the business to binding agreements with either clients or sub-contractors without the express permission / authority of your line manager
Under supervision support in the collation of relevant documentation relating to insurance claims.
Maintain and continuously improve commercial /legal/contractual awareness.
Learn and understand the Contracts Process
In addition to the above tasks the Trainee Quantity Surveyor may be required to undertake such other duties normally deemed to be part of the Surveying function as instructed by your line manager
Working in one or more locations as required

Qualifications

Previous experience within the construction industry would be desirable
3 A-levels at minimum BCC grade
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at 9-4 (grade C or above) including Maths, English and ideally a Science
Any previous Level 4 related qualification or equivalent discipline
I.T literate particularly Excel and keen to extend knowledge on software packages and Microsoft Office.
Numerate to high standard, able to analyse data and produce costs and information for final accounts.
Able to produce work accurately and to tight deadlines
Basic understanding of standard methods of measurement
Basic knowledge of Housing Sector
