A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individual with regulatory or criminal enforcement experience to join our small team of 4 officers in delivering a busy Animal Health service. You will have specific responsibility for the enforcement of farm animal health and welfare across the East Riding and also be required to support the wider delivery of a Farm to Fork approach as part of the Food Services and Public Protection Service.As one of the largest unitary counties in England, the East Riding of Yorkshire provides many unique opportunities, with its broad rural economy it is the perfect environment for an enthusiastic officer to enjoy a varied workload and to help make a difference to the rural economy.In this role you will be enforcing animal health and welfare legislation, carrying out proactive inspections, visiting farms, livestock markets, collecting centres, abattoirs, animal by-products premises, investigating complaints, responding to incidents providing advice and guidance to the farming community and East Riding residents. You will be required to also assist with the response to outbreaks of exotic notifiable animal diseases, be involved in the investigation of reports of illegally imported animals and deliver intelligence-led projects.We are ideally looking for someone who has direct experience with farm animals, knowledge of livestock husbandry systems and working in a regulatory or similar environment, carrying out interventions under a legislative framework or ensuring that standards are applied correctly. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop your skills and career.Applicants should have a good level of education, hold 5 GCSE's (Level A-C) including Maths and English and either hold the CTSI Animal Health and Welfare Professional Qualification or an equivalent animal, agriculture or enforcement related diploma or degree. Applicants with significant recent practical experience of working directly in farm animal health and welfare will also be considered with the ability to undertake the necessary qualifications in 12-18 months. The successful applicant must be willing to undertaking any relevant professional training and qualifications.You must have resilience, a positive can do' attitude, effective communication skills both orally and in written format to deal with external/internal partners and customers, sometimes in difficult and challenging situations. You must have the skills to prioritise, plan and manage your time effectively, demonstrating the ability to work under pressure, with a flexible approach. Enthusiasm and partnership working are key elements of this role along with the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals. Ability to work within an auditable system of procedures and processes, maintaining quality with excellent record keeping is required.You should hold a full driving licence and must have access to a suitable vehicle as you will be required to travel to locations across the East Riding rural area to carry out inspections. You will be required to work outside in all weather conditions across a range of sites and must be physically able to handle farm livestock and walk long distances. When undertaking interventions with businesses and investigating complaints into to potential criminal offences, you will potentially encounter confrontational and challenging situations.You will need flexibility in your working hours and be willing to work occasionally out of office hours to ensure the effective delivery of the Animal Health Function. The Team works as part of an agile arrangement, and you will be based at the office in Beverley and also work from your home or out on-site visits in a blended manner to meet service needs.
