Job Description
Actuarial Consultant- Fully remote - Permanent role
In the Actuarial Consultant role you will assist Scheme Actuaries, Senior Actuarial Consultants and Actuarial Analysts in the provision of advice to a portfolio of pension scheme clients. The main focus is on Trustee work, but there will also be some work on assisting pension scheme sponsors.
You will provide and present actuarial advice to trustees of defined benefit pension schemes as required by the pension scheme’s documentation and any statutory requirements other than where the Scheme Actuary is required to provide such advice (if not appointed as the Scheme Actuary). This will include all aspects of actuarial valuations including working with our Actuarial Technical Centre that carries out the actuarial calculations.
Job Description:
Key duties/responsibilities
Providing support to the lead Actuary
Preparing/reviewing advice on actuarial factors including transfer value bases
Advising Trustees on all aspects of liability management exercises initiated by a scheme sponsor
Advising on de-risking exercises including buy-ins, buy-outs and helping set de-risking investment triggers together with the trustees’ investment consultants
Attendance at client meetings
Involvement in new business pitches
Supporting revenue targets by identifying/proactively seeking out-of-scope /add-on work within the actuarial practice
Drafting and monitoring of budgets for complex tasks, along with involvement in billing and budgeting
Involvement in technical subcommittees or leading small initiatives, including presenting at internal or external seminars
Preparing accounting disclosures (FRS102/IAS19/US GAAP)
Working closely with junior team members to enable their growth
Keeping abreast of technical, legislative, and demographic developments affecting pension schemes,
What are we looking for
Qualifications
A qualified actuary or close to being qualified through the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ exams (the full study is available to complete your studies if required) or qualified by experience (i.e. stopped taking exams)
A minimum of 5 years experience in a pensions consulting/technical environment
