Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team on a part-time basis during the probation period leading to full-time following probation. As Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. Your expertise in accounting and proficiency with accounting software will be essential in supporting the financial operations of our organisation.
Pro rata salary up to £30,000
Responsibilities
Financial Recordkeeping:
· Maintain complete and accurate financial records, including journals, ledgers, and financial statements.
· Record all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and adjustments.
· Reconcile bank statements and other financial documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.
· Accounts Payable and Receivable:
o Process accounts payable invoices, verifying accuracy, coding expenses, and preparing payments.
o Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on overdue invoices.
o Prepare and send customer invoices and statements in a timely manner.
· Financial Reporting:
o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
o Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights into financial performance and trends.
Payroll Processing:
· Assist in processing payroll, including calculating employee hours, preparing payroll checks, and processing payroll tax payments.
· Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
Compliance and Documentation:
· Maintain compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
· Organise and maintain financial files and documentation for audit and review purposes.
· Assist with tax preparation, including VAT returns, and provide necessary documentation to external accountants or tax preparers.
Qualifications:
· Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
· Proven experience as an accounts assistant, bookkeeper or similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
· Proficiency in accounting software e.g. Xero and Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial recordkeeping.
· Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
