About the role
We are expanding our team and looking to take on a Valve Technician to join us, working on our Developer Services Framework in the Severn Trent Water Region. This is an exciting time to join an established team as we look to continue to build upon the success, we have had in delivering this workstream for over 10 years.
As a Valve Technician you will play a key role in delivering great service to our customers and clients Severn Trent Water + other Private Clients, working on our Developer Services Contract predominantly - with the opportunity for works with external clients.
A site-based role working within the STW region on behalf of Avove on various contracts. As critical role in ensuring network compliance, water hygiene and quality is always maintained, and any supply interruptions are managed and recorded correctly.
What you will be doing
Carry out operations on site and interacting with site managers,contractors and customers
The rolemainly involves site activities such as the isolation of the network for online work
Flushing and sampling of the mains to ensure the water is good to drink
Issue card warning customers that water supply interruptions will be taking place on certain days / times to allow connections or water services are being transferred.
Setting and adjusting pressure management valves /PRVs .
Completing rezones on the water network / using a blow off Tool .
Pre-construction surveying will be required on any site apparatus such as sluice valves, fire hydrants and stop cocks so all water assets have been identified before water mains works commence and no unplanned supply interruptions take place.
The ability to carry out generic and task-specific risk assessments for certain jobs if lone working etc.
Fully comply with Company and Clients policies and procedures
Undertake and document site specific risk assessments when lone working
Identify and report Close Calls (near misses) and Good Calls (positive interventions)
Take care and responsibility for all equipment provided to you
Complete and document regulatory inspections (PUWER, LOLER etc.) of your equipment
Undertake and document daily vehicle check before use
Undertake CAT download from operational gangs on a weekly basis
Undertake and document site survey (Stop Tap location and network valve checks)
Card Warn (write and post warning card) and document for customer supply interruptions
Operate Network valves following approved client documentation and processes
Flushing and sampling water mains deliver the samples to client laboratory for analysis
Complete and submit appropriate DG3 paperwork detailing durations of customer supply interruptions
Assist Site Managers as and when required (apparatus evidence gathering, marker plate installations etc.)
Reliable Customer focused approach to delivery
Qualifications
Technical qualifications associated with the role, i.e. Valve Due Diligence, Operational Care and Network Pressure management

Good communication and interpersonal skills to deal with external parties and members of the public

Basic health and safety awareness
A good knowledge of I.T. such as using laptops and phones for document control through Excel and Microsoft Word plus managing emails etc.
A flexible approach to out of hours and weekend working will be required when dictated by operational need
Able to drive, with a full current and valid driving licence
