Technical Director - Floating Wind

Posted 6 months ago

Technical Engineering Director – Floating Wind (Structural Design)
This is a once-in-decade role. If you're someone who's been operating within Engineering Design (Structures & Moorings) for a number of years now - and want the opportunity to set up, build, grow and ultimately run a department, then this one's for you!
Our UK based client is seeking a Technical Director to ultimately drive and oversee all floating wind business elements (including the structural design team) for large floating foundation structures and their mooring systems. This person should be very capable of "wearing a few hats" and want to treat the department as their own, growing it from the ground up, and undertaking Concept Design, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Designs in collaboration with the wider team.
This role will likely involve some overseas and national travel as and when required, and our client is very happy to offer highly flexible working arrangements, whether that be from home or the office - or the world-class testing facilities base. They also offer ongoing training and development opportunities and pride themselves on an incredibly collaborative, inclusive, and supportive work environment - topped up with some of the finest R&D facilities in the world.
This person will be responsible for growing and developing our client's design-based service line strategy, growing the client's renewables offshore wind expertise, and developing significant new strategic partnerships from up and down the supply chain. A great deal of autonomy (in terms of strategy and direction) will also be placed with this person, should they wish to take more of a commercial lead on this division, but they will also be supported commercially by the Global Business Development team.
Hiring, budgeting, P+L establishment, and Technical service lines (design) will all rest with this individual, so this is a critical hire for the business as they venture further into the Green Energy space for design. We are presenting exclusively - as an extremely rare role and opportunity to build out a business function with one of the most historical design brands in the world.
Our client is looking for someone with at least 12+ years of relevant industry experience, which could mean a profile from a Mooring Analysis, Naval Architecture, Marine Structural background (or something similar) - and the relevant Engineering degree discipline to match, as well as ideally a Chartership in their field.
