About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages to join our forward-thinking secondary school in Chester. The ideal candidate will be passionate about language learning and capable of teaching one or more modern foreign languages—typically French and/or Spanish—across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach at Key Stage 5.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in one or more modern foreign languages (e.g. French, Spanish, German).

Develop students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the target language, fostering confidence and fluency.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring progress and achievement for students of all abilities.

Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including GCSE and A-Level exams, in line with exam board requirements.

Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to curriculum development and cross-curricular initiatives.

Promote cultural awareness and a love of languages through dynamic teaching, enrichment opportunities, and international links.

Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom organisation in line with school expectations.

Engage with parents, carers, and colleagues to support student learning and wellbeing.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.

A degree in Modern Foreign Languages or a related subject.

Ability to teach at least one MFL (French and/or Spanish preferred).

A strong understanding of the MFL curriculum and assessment frameworks at KS3 and KS4.

Excellent classroom management and communication skills.

A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding.

Desirable:

Experience teaching both French and Spanish.

Experience teaching at A-Level or equivalent post-16 qualifications.

Familiarity with exam boards such as AQA or Edexcel.

Interest in running international trips, exchanges, or language clubs.
