About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join a well-established and dynamic building services contractor. This role plays a crucial part in the pre-construction team, contributing to high-profile mechanical and M&E projects across sectors.
As Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will take full responsibility for preparing competitive tenders, driving value through detailed cost analysis, and supporting successful project acquisition. You’ll collaborate closely with the estimating, commercial, and delivery teams, and liaise with clients and supply chain partners to ensure accurate and commercially sound submissions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the preparation and submission of mechanical tenders in line with company procedures.
* Obtain competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure market-aligned pricing.
* Identify project risks and opportunities at tender stage and clearly communicate these.
* Liaise with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners throughout the tender process.
* Prepare detailed cost estimates using appropriate methods and software tools.
* Ensure clear and concise tender handovers to delivery teams.
* Maintain high standards of documentation, including tender reports and cost breakdowns.
* Contribute to the development of robust pre-construction processes and estimating libraries.
* Support the training and development of junior estimators.
* Engage in business development and contribute to prequalification and bid submissions.
Requirements
* Proven experience in a senior mechanical estimating role within the building services or construction sector.
* Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, pipework, plant rooms, and related infrastructure.
* Proficiency in estimation software and general IT tools (Excel, Word, etc.).
* Solid understanding of contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
* Ability to assess site conditions and contribute to accurate cost planning.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and methodical approach to documentation.
* Flexible, proactive mindset with a collaborative team approach.
* Ability to travel to sites and attend client/supplier meetings as required.
Desirable Skills
* Familiarity with ISO-accredited business management systems.
* Experience mentoring or managing junior staff.
* Knowledge of current market trends, value engineering, and supply chain dynamics
