We are recruiting for a Senior EC&I Engineer, Lead EC&I Engineer and a Principal EC&I Engineer to work on a long term contract in the nuclear industry.
The role can be worked hybrid based either in Warrington or at AWE.
Rates for the Senior EC&I Engineer, Lead EC&I Engineer and a Principal EC&I Engineer:
c£50-65 Ltd per hour (Outside IR35) or Umbrella, PAYE equivalent.
Main Purpose of the EC&I Engineer role:
To define and coordinate engineering scope, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards of quality. You will be responsible for delivering design and engineering documentation to support Design Reviews, HAZOPs, and overall project lifecycle requirements. This role includes mentoring junior staff, managing engineering resources, and participating in recruitment activities.
Position in the Organisation:

Reports to a Principal Engineer, Team Leader, or Engineering Manager
*
Acts as line manager for a small team (typically up to 5 engineers)
*
Responsible for assigning tasks and overseeing quality, budget, and schedule adherence
*
Manages external subcontracts within allocated scope
*
Regular liaison with clients and cross-discipline teams
*
Responsible for project communications and progress updates within your remit
Key Responsibilities:
*
Delivery of engineering across all lifecycle stages including design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning, and training
*
Cross-discipline coordination
*
Contribution to technical consultancy
*
Project and subcontractor management, including cost, progress, and documentation control
*
Support to sales and client care functions
*
Foster and maintain a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. CDM, CE marking), and application of safety systems
Skills & Experience Required:
Essential:
*
Degree in an engineering discipline or significant relevant experience
*
Full UK driving license
*
Working toward Chartered Engineer status
*
Minimum 5 years' experience in the nuclear sector
*
Strong knowledge of nuclear safety case design principles
*
Proven experience managing subcontractors and reviewing design deliverables
*
Familiarity with relevant safety legislation and engineering standards
*
Confident leading technical teams in a structured project environment
*
Organised, collaborative, and deadline-driven
Desirable:
*
Chartered Engineer or working towards it (preferably IET or equivalent membership)
*
Experience in EC&I design integration with control systems (e.g. PLC/SCADA)
*
Design substantiation experience for nuclear safety cases
*
Exposure to defence sector projects
*
Involvement in bid and proposal preparation
