SEN Support Worker, Hyndburn

We are seeking a SEN Support Worker to join our specialist team in Hyndburn supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including autism, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and communication challenges.

This is not a typical classroom role. Our pupils require personalised support, and you'll be working closely with them to help build routine, emotional regulation, and confidence both in and out of the classroom. You'll be part of a warm, multidisciplinary team dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Assist pupils with personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and mobility support where required

Help deliver structured learning and therapeutic activities under the guidance of teachers and specialists

Support emotional and behavioural regulation using trauma-informed approaches

Promote independence and positive communication using tools like Makaton, PECS, or AAC (training available)

Maintain a safe, supportive and engaging environment for all pupils

Who We're Looking For

We value character, compassion, and consistency above all.

You might come from a background in:

Care or support work (children or adults)

Health or social care

Youth work or mentoring

Education or early years

Or you might simply be someone with strong interpersonal skills, a calm and caring nature, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Essential qualities:

Patience, empathy and a proactive mindset

Willingness to carry out personal care with dignity and respect

Good communication and teamwork skills

A flexible, "can-do" attitude and emotional resilience

Desirable (but not essential):

Experience working with children or young people with SEND

Knowledge of behaviour support strategies or communication tools

Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health & Social Care)

All candidates are subject to DBS checks, reference checks, and CV covering full working history.
