Concept Developer
Salary: Up to £37,000 per annum
Reports To: Concept Manager
Overview:
We are looking for a creative and commercially minded Concept Developer to join our Innovation team. This is an exciting role responsible for developing innovative food products that align with market trends, customer expectations, and commercial targets. You’ll lead product development from concept to customer presentation, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop innovative food products in response to customer briefs, ensuring alignment with market benchmarks, consumer trends, and business objectives.
* Identify, brief, and source new raw materials in accordance with the company’s raw material sourcing policies.
* Collaborate with the Packaging Innovation Manager to ensure packaging solutions are functional, innovative, and fit for purpose.
* Deliver product development in line with internal stage gate processes and ensure all procedures are followed.
* Support the Concept Manager in ensuring that all development-related paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
* Organise and lead organoleptic assessments (taste panels) throughout the development lifecycle to ensure consistent product quality.
* Work cross-functionally with teams including Technical, Commercial, Procurement, and Operations to ensure alignment at every stage of the development process.
* Attend customer meetings and product submission sessions, providing updates and supporting the Concept Manager with ongoing customer relationship management.
* Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with key customer contacts to support long-term partnership success.
* Provide day-to-day direction and support to the Concept Technologist, including setting their work plans and holding regular 1:1 meetings to review performance and personal development plans (PDPs).
Key Skills and Experience:
* Experience in food product development or a similar innovation role within the food industry.
* Strong understanding of market trends, product development lifecycles, and customer expectations.
* Confident communicator with experience managing customer relationships.
* Demonstrated ability to lead projects and coordinate cross-functional teams.
* Excellent organisational skills with a strong attention to detail and process management.
* Familiarity with raw material sourcing and packaging innovation is desirable.
* Previous line management or mentoring experience is advantageous.
