We are looking for a skilled and reliable Plater to join our busy structural steel workshop based on Hartlepool. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and assembly of steel components used in the construction of buildings, bridges, platforms, and other major infrastructure projects. You will work from detailed drawings to cut, mark out, and assemble structural sections to precise tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:

Mark out, cut, and assemble structural steel components using engineering drawings and templates.

Work with various section types including beams, columns, channels, and angles.
*
Use tools such as oxy-fuel burners, grinders, magnetic drills, and plasma cutters.
*
Ensure correct preparation for welding (e.g., fit-up, bevels, gaps).
*
Check tolerances and alignment prior to handover to welders.
*
Operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment safely and efficiently.
*
Maintain high standards of workmanship, accuracy, and health & safety.
*
Report any defects, issues, or drawing discrepancies to team leaders or supervisors.
Skills & Experience Required:
*
Proven experience in a plating structural steel fabrication role is ESSENTIAL.
*
Ability to read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings accurately.
*
Strong knowledge of steel section types, tolerances, and typical fabrication practices.
*
Competent with manual handling and safe operation of lifting and positioning equipment.
*
Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining quality.
*
Team-oriented attitude with good communication skills.
Qualifications:

Time-served apprentice or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plating / Fabrication / Structural Engineering.
*
Overhead crane license or experience (training can be provided).
*
CSCS card or equivalent (preferred).
