We currently have a vacancy for a Machine Shop Manager who will support the Operations Director in achieving business objectives by leading a team of machinists to meet/exceed output, quality and cost performance targets and deliver customer expectations. The role is also responsible for driving improvements in productivity by increasing machine uptime, reducing cycle times and where appropriate creating a business case for investment in new technology.
Specific Responsibilities of this role includes:
- Driving safety performance and improvements, including full review of all risk assessments
- Setting and driving a 100% RFT quality culture in the Machine Shop
- Driving 6S standards across the departments
- Manage individuals and team performance
- Identify, develop and implement continuous improvement activities with your teams
- Schedule resources within your team in order to meet production requirements and ensure the organisation of priorities to achieve the plan
- Daily, weekly and monthly reporting on all key performance indicators including forecasting and critical interrogation of prior results
- Liaising effectively with all departments to ensure plans are aligned with overall business
Knowledge and Experience required:
- Demonstrate several years' Management experience within a manufacturing environment
- Adherence to daily performance metrics as the norm
- Highly competent machine tool operator - preferably time served background or with in-depth experience of working within or supervising a machine shop. Weld experience desirable.
- Financial management skills, good and demonstrable track record of financial awareness (operational cost control and budgeting)
- Good level IT skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Should be flexible, possess drive and initiative and be able to work as part of a wider team
- The ability to produce action plans and deliver against them
- Team player who is able to build and lead high performing teams through effective communication and to develop people to realise their full potential
Ideal candidates will have prior machining and management experience within a manufacturing environment. Preferably the successful candidate will have a background in a heavier type of industry or be able to show versatility in quickly absorbing the detail of new manufacturing operations with well-rounded experience.
