This role sits within the BBC Studios Digital Brands division, who curate, commission and commercialise social first content to cultivate and amplify the fandoms behind some of the world's most iconic franchises, including Bluey, BBC Earth, Doctor Who and Top Gear. THE ROLE The Head of Digital, Network is responsible for building a new team within the Digital Brands division. This new team will develop and grow a new BBC Studio social video network that utilises the depth and breadth of BBCS IP and Archive. This new team will primarily focus on scaling our digital video business - enhancing content discovery and relevancy and create a portfolio that is fit for the future.
This new role will be leading the publishing and content operations strategy across our extensive portfolio of digital brands - heading up a high performing team that executes large scale content publishing to maximise digital revenue while maintaining brand integrity and audience engagement. This role line manages the Senior Digital Video Manager, and the Network team is a core team of 10 (plus co-ordinator pool).
Reporting into the Group Digital Director, this role will work alongside and partner with the Head of Fandom and their team. The Fandom team is responsible for building a curated portfolio of brands that are rooted in "fandoms" that are complementary to the "communities" that the Network team manage. The Fandom brands are designed to operate across multiple business lines and across multiple digital platforms.
This is a strategic, high impact leadership role, owning annual and quarterly volume plans that align with revenue targets and business growth objectives. You will work cross functionally with key stakeholders, including the Traffic Manager, Content Team, Operations leads, Compliance and Archive Team and Director of Planning, to ensure seamless execution of publishing plans and long-term success.
You will play a pivotal role in growing social video revenues, ensuring that publishing operations remain flexible, scalable, and aligned with growth objectives, while meeting ambitious content output targets.
Key Responsibilities Strategic planning and volume management
Own and drive annual and quarterly volume plans to meet revenue and performance targets
Monitor performance across all channels daily, working with Senior Manager and Managers on constant tests and optimisations
Ensure regular communication with Group Digital Director on performance, successes, learnings and mitigations
Ensure publishing strategies are scalable, efficient, and aligned with growth objectives
Work closely with the Director of Planning to ensure content volume plans support wider business goals, forward planning needs, and key KPIs
Work closely with the Traffic Manager and Video Team to ensure resource requirements are met
Adapt and refine plans as needed, ensuring flexibility to accommodate platform trends, audience shifts, and emerging opportunities
Leadership and team development
Manage and mentor the Senior Digital Video Manager, whilst providing support and guidance to the full Network team, ensuring their ability to deliver at pace and scale while maintaining quality
Oversee a team of Executives and Coordinators, fostering a culture of excellence, agility, and data-driven decision making
Lead resource planning and team structuring to ensure optimal efficiency and adaptability across brands
Stakeholder and cross team collaboration
Work in close partnership with Director of Planning, ensuring alignment between publishing execution and long term business strategies
Partner with the Traffic Manager to ensure seamless workflow execution and resource allocation
Partner with the operations team to improve processes, workflows, and tracking capabilities
Partner with the Archive Team on an effective briefing process to ensure content adheres to rights and licencing agreements
Work with compliance team to ensure workflows align with editorial and regulatory policies
Operational excellence and KPI ownership
Set and monitor publishing KPI's, ensuring all content meets performance benchmarks for engagement, monetization, and reach
Implement data-driven decision making by leveraging insights to refine publishing strategies and improve efficiency
Ensure accountability for adherence to critical workflows is in place
Platform and industry expertise
Stay ahead of platform changes, industry trends, and audience behaviours, ensuring content strategies evolve
Ensure the team is using best in class tools to optimise performance tracking
WHAT DOES IT TAKE? Key Criteria
Leadership: Proven experience of leading and developing high performing large scale content publishing teams with high volume content pipelines
Commercial digital expertise: Proven functional and technical expertise across all social video platforms with extensive experience in building and managing large scale monetised social video networks that are compliant with rights and editorial policies
Creative, strategic excellence: A deep passion for our content and audiences, with a strong track record of creating, communicating and delivering data driven social video strategies to optimise strategies and workflows, and facilitate substantial digital revenue growth
Analytical literacy: Exceptional analytical mindset and reporting skills to monitor and effectively communicate performance, implementing frequent optimisations and adjusting strategies as necessary, with experience using data to drive decision making and optimise publishing strategies and workflows
Stakeholder management: A clear communicator, able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC departments - particularly Planning, Content and Operations, and external stakeholders where required
