Scope of Groundworks – External Works

These are typically finishing tasks in the groundworks phase of construction and include:

* Laying slabs – flagstones, paving slabs for walkways or patios.

* Installing kerbs – concrete or stone kerbs for roadways, car parks, or footpaths.

* Setting edgings – usually smaller boundary restraints for paving or landscaping.

📜 Required Qualifications

Depending on the machinery or scope, the following certifications are typically required:

* CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
✅ Required for almost all site workers to prove basic health & safety training.

* CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme)
✅ Needed if operating plant machinery like a mini digger, dumper, or roller.

* NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)
✅ An alternative to CPCS for plant/machine operators. Increasingly accepted on most UK construction sites.

A groundworker in this role would be expected to:
