Food Safety Officer
Working Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP

We are currently seeking an experienced Food Safety Officer to join Camden Council’s Environmental Health team. This is a great opportunity for a qualified and competent officer to work on a wide range of food safety matters in a vibrant and diverse borough.

A background in food safety is mandatory, and candidates must meet the competency requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct inspections, re-inspections, and surveys of food businesses to ensure compliance with relevant food safety legislation.

*

Investigate and resolve complex cases, including complaints and service requests.

*

Determine appropriate enforcement actions, including informal advice, statutory notices, or legal proceedings.

*

Attend court, tribunals, and public inquiries to give evidence as required.

*

Monitor and apply new or emerging legislation, guidance, and policies affecting food safety services.

*

Work independently to manage a complex caseload while prioritising tasks based on risk and public health priorities.

*

Provide expert advice to the public, local businesses, and partner agencies.

*

Assist in designing and delivering service improvement projects aligned with council priorities.

*

Support junior officers and help ensure consistency and legal compliance in enforcement work.

Requirements:

Essential: BSc/MSc or Diploma in Environmental Health.

*

Must hold: Competency under the Food Law Code of Practice as an Authorised Officer, with recent and relevant inspection experience.

*

In-depth knowledge of current food safety legislation, codes of practice, and enforcement procedures.

*

Excellent investigative, analytical, and reporting skills.

*

Ability to work independently in a flexible, agile environment.

Strong organisational and customer service skills.

*

Experience in managing conflicting priorities and delivering results under pressure.
