Monarch Education is working in partnership with a secondary school in Birmingham to recruit a dedicated and skilled Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join their team in September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a well-equipped DT department and play a vital role in the delivery of creative, practical learning for students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
As a DT Technician, you will support teaching staff by preparing materials, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring lessons run smoothly and safely. You'll assist in a range of DT disciplines including resistant materials, electronics, and graphics.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and setting up resources and materials for practical lessons in woodwork, metalwork, and other DT areas.
Maintaining and repairing tools, machines, and equipment, ensuring they are in safe working order.
Monitoring stock levels and ordering supplies when needed.
Ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed and conducting regular risk assessments.
Supporting students and staff during practical lessons, providing guidance on equipment use.
Ensuring the workshop and classroom areas are kept clean, organised, and compliant with safety regulations.
Previous experience as a DT Technician in a school or workshop environment is highly desirable.
A working knowledge of DT machinery and tools (e.g., saws, drills, laser cutters, 3D printers).
Understanding of health and safety regulations within a workshop or school setting.
Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to supporting practical learning.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
