About the Opportunity
A well-established environmental consultancy, known for its practical and responsible approach to development, is looking for a senior leader to head up its growing water environment division of 7 experienced individuals split across 3 UK offices. This is a rare opportunity to take on a director-level role that combines hands-on technical involvement with team leadership and strategic oversight.
The company works across the UK, supporting clients through the planning and development process with a focus on delivering environmentally sound, technically robust, and commercially viable solutions.
Your Role
As Director of Water Environment, you'll be responsible for the operational and strategic direction of a multidisciplinary team working across flood risk, surface water drainage, and peatland hydrology.
You'll oversee client delivery, internal operations, and business development-ensuring technical quality, commercial success, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading a team of specialists across water-related disciplines, providing both technical input and managerial oversight
Supporting company-wide strategy in collaboration with other directors and senior leadership
Managing project delivery, client relationships, financial reporting, and team resourcing
Driving quality assurance, innovation, and professional development within the team
Developing new business opportunities and representing the company externally
Maintaining a hands-on role in complex or high-value projects where your expertise is most valuable
Fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
About You
10+ years' experience in environmental consultancy, ideally with technical grounding in one or more of: flood risk, drainage design, or peatland restoration
Chartered membership of a relevant institution (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, IEMA)
A strong understanding of relevant UK legislation, guidance, and policy
Demonstrated success in client-facing roles, business development, and team management
Experience working on major planning applications, DCOs, or nationally significant infrastructure projects
Clear, confident communicator with a collaborative leadership style
What's on Offer
Salary between £55,000 and £65,000, depending on experience
25 days holiday + bank holidays (with additional days increasing with length of service)
