Our client, a leading provider of care and education for children and young people, is seeking a dedicated Deputy Manager to join their team in a specialised residential service. As a Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Registered Manager to achieve the service’s objectives, deputising in their absence, managing staff, and ensuring the best outcomes for young people. Main Purpose of the Role

Assist the Registered Manager in delivering the service’s statement of purpose

*

Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager

*

Support and manage staff to meet the needs of young people

*

Undertake direct work with young people as needed

*

Manage child protection concerns and complaints responsibly

*

Collaborate with other professionals to achieve optimal outcomes

*

Provide supervision and support to senior staff in line with care quality standards and regulations

Duties and Responsibilities

*

Ensure each young person has an allocated key worker

*

Communicate placement plans to staff and ensure their implementation

*

Attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to advocate for young people

*

Engage directly with young people, acting as a positive role model

*

Involve young people in providing feedback on the quality of care

*

Support the Registered Manager in implementing the statement of purpose

*

Contribute to service improvements alongside the management team

*

Deputise for the Registered Manager as required

*

Ensure adequate staffing levels, supporting on and off the rota as needed

*

Manage resources and maintain accurate financial records

Qualifications/Experience/Requirements

*

Level 3 qualification in Caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent)

*

Understanding of relevant frameworks (e.g., Ofsted SCCIF)

*

At least 12 months’ experience in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour, including supervisory experience

*

Knowledge of the Children Act and related legislation

*

Strong team-building, supervision, and organisational skills

*

Ability to manage and motivate teams effectively

*

Full UK driving licence (due to the role’s requirements)

*

Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide references covering at least two years (including all roles involving children or vulnerable people)

DBS and reference checks will be conducted in line with government regulations and safer recruitment practices. The recruitment process may take time due to these essential checks.
