Job Purpose

We are seeking a Court of Protection Officer for an initial 3-month contract to play a key role in managing the financial affairs and property of adults who lack capacity, where the Council acts as a Court Appointed Deputy.

Main responsibilities
 
Manage a caseload to protect the financial and property interests of vulnerable adults.
Act on behalf of the Council under the authority of the Court of Protection.
Liaise with external agencies including HMRC, DWP, financial institutions, and legal bodies.
Handle assets including bank accounts, investments, and property.
Support estate administration following a client’s death.
Maintain accurate financial records using systems like Liquid Logic and AMS.
To protect the property and financial affairs of vulnerable adults who are subject to the Court of Protection.
To act under the delegated Court Appointed Deputy to enforce the Court Order on behalf of the Court, LCC and the client.
At all times, the Post Holder must adhere to the Directions of the Court Order and meet the Local Authority Deputy Standards set by the Office of the Public Guardian and act in compliance to the Mental Capacity Act (#####).
Liaise with the Court, Social Workers and other LCC staff, HMRC, DWP and other government bodies and financial institutions on behalf of and in the best interest of the client
To ensure COP representation at appropriate meetings in relation to an individual client and their family members.
Advise and explain to Social Workers and family members the procedures relating to deceased Clients subject to Court of Protection regarding the funeral and estate.
Report to Office of the Public Guardian Visiting Officers on open/active cases.Requirements:

Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Local Authority Deputy Standards.
Experience in managing client finances and property with diligence and integrity.
Excellent interpersonal, organisational and IT skills.
Ability to deal professionally with distressed or vulnerable individuals
5 GCSEs / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
Proven understanding of the Court of Protection framework
A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred service
