Job Title: Civil Engineer (Rail Earthworks & Drainage)
Location: Sonning (Reading area), with initial work in Swindon
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum
Contract Type - Fulltime, Permanent
We're looking for a Civil Engineer, ideally with rail experience, to support a major infrastructure project focused on earthworks and drainage across the western rail network.
You'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle-from design through to delivery and close-out. The role begins in Swindon during pre-construction and transitions to site-based work in Sonning once construction starts in 2025.
Key Responsibilities of the Civil Engineer:
Support design development to ensure buildability
Plan access and construction methods with the supply chain
Liaise with stakeholders during pre-construction
Coordinate temporary site facilities with land agents
Assist with procurement and supply chain selection
Identify public interface risks and support mitigation planning
Lead mobilisation of site facilities and team
Manage subcontractors and on-site operations
Oversee engineering and quality throughout the build
Work under NEC4 contract terms
Promote health, safety, and environmental standards on site
Contribute to assessing and tracking project viability
What We're Looking For:
Degree in Civil Engineering
ICE Graduate, Incorporated, or Chartered Membership
SMSTS and CSCS card required
PTS certification preferred (can be provided)
Rail sector experience desirable
