Overview of role:
This is an opportunity for an experimental X-ray scientist to join the X-ray source development team as part of a larger Engineering team designing new technologies for X-ray and CT imaging in the security market. The role will primarily involve the design and prototyping of new and novel X-ray sources but will also have an opportunity for involvement in the design of imaging systems.
The role will suit an experimental physicist / scientist with some experience of X-ray or high power electron tube design .
To support the design and development of X-ray sources to improve image quality and threat detection capabilities in security screening systems.
To report into the Senior X-ray Scientist and to provide design and experimental support for technology development.
To actively contribute to the design of key tube subsystems such as electron guns, cathode technologies, anode design, high voltage insulators, etc.
To carryout assembly and experimental validation of new tube developments.
Analyse experimental data, interpret results and refine designs based upon findings.
To work collaboratively within the wider Engineering team to support the development of new imaging technologies.
To collaborate with the Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to provide support for transferring proven technologies into production.
To support the continual improvement of current production technologies and to support legacy systems.
To develop interactions with other science and engineering teams globally to develop engagement on R&D projects.
To prepare technical reports, documentation and presentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
Postgraduate experienced in experimental radiation physics
Experience in the fields of ultra-high vacuum is required. Experience of high voltage is advantageous.
Strong experimental skills including the ability to design and conduct complex experiments.
The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to collaborate effectively within a developmental and manufacturing environment.
An understanding of X-ray dosimetry and shielding would be advantageous.
A PhD in experimental radiation physics or related topic is preferred.
This role will be based on site in Redhill.
