An exciting opportunity to join a volunteer board as a non-executive director in a period of growth and development for bowls in Wales. BowlsWales are seeking to appoint a Vice-Chair who is an experienced and passionate individual to provide strategic leadership and valuable insight, knowledge and experience to help support the direction of the sport.
We appreciate the commitment needed for Volunteer Board Members. Therefore, we are happy to provide any training and development opportunities to help develop the required skills.
Key Details
Salary: Voluntary plus expenses
Term of Office: Initially 3 years with the opportunity to serve an additional 3 years.
Location: Majority of meetings held virtually with the occasional meeting in Cardiff.
Time Commitment: Approximately 2 days a month. Usually, 6 Board meetings per year with an Annual General Meeting, usually held in the evening. May be asked to represent the organisation at events. With the current work that is being undertaken to develop a strategy and grow the sustainability of the organisation, greater time commitment will be required.

The Role
The Board is responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to the organisation in the pursuit of its objectives.
The Vice-Chair role is designed to support the Chair in the setting of the organisation's strategy and policies, providing leadership and planning support, and to act for the Chair when they are not available, ensuring an immediate replacement is in place in the event the Chair cannot be present for meetings, events or in any way unavailable to lead the business of the Board.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Chair in leading the overall direction of the organisation, and in delivering the overall strategy for the sport
* Support the Chair in leading and directing the Board either at full Board meetings or on specialist advisory panels or working groups;
* Share responsibility with the Chair for legality and probity in the conduct of the organisation
* Have a clear vision as to how the organisation can continue to contribute as a deliverer across the sport
* Have the ability to scrutinise and excellent analytical skills to support and challenge the Board effectively, to ensure that organisation meets its aims, objectives and performance targets;
* Participate in the corporate planning process, including agreeing annual budget plans for operational programmes and corporate activities;
* Have a good understanding of corporate responsibility and risk management to ensure that the organisation's activities are conducted effectively and efficiently;
* Have an enquiring mind, good listening skills and ability to understand complex situations/reports.
Person Specification
* The ability to lead an executive board and support the leadership of the organisation;
* Provide strategic guidance and have the ability to build strong relationships;
* High level of understanding and interest Sports Governance;
* A commitment to the values and principles of the organisation;
* Strong business and financial acumen
* Experience of committee work
* Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills proven leadership skills
* Strong organisational skills
* Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse and resolve difficult problems
* Sound, independent judgement, common sense and diplomacy
* High standards of personal integrity and probity
* Politically astute, with the ability to grasp relevant issues and understand relationships between interested parties
* Clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of board members

* Sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role.
