The Role
The Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (Configuration Control) will work with the Product and Support Engineering and Project Management Teams to establish, maintain and monitor the configuration plans and baselines for products and programmes for submarine programmes.
They will have a good knowledge of engineering and business practices that require configuration control and management and will be able to work with the Engineering Managers, appropriate Technical Authorities and Project Managers to ensure the correct controls and reporting processes are put in place. This will ensure that products, systems and supporting documentation are delivered in a safe, assured and controlled manner.
The Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (Configuration Control) will be able to understand and report the programme status for engineering activities related to configuration status and the control of baselines, and will be able to identify and report problem areas. They will be able to work with the relevant stakeholders to establish recovery plans.
They will have a good understanding of the relevant maritime legislation, industry standards that will cover the configuration control and processes they will apply and will work with Support and Product Engineering Managers as appropriate to support the effective delivery of products, documentation and programmes to the Customer.

The following activities are typical of work that may be carried out by the Principal Engineer - Support Engineering (Configuration Control), in full or part dependent on the role and the specific projects that are being supported:
Support the development of design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones by establishing and maintaining the appropriate configuration control baselines. Comply with the contractual requirements and undertake work in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation.
Understand and articulate the impact of good and bad configuration control and baseline management across all areas of the submarine combat system, the platform, its through-life support and the documentation.
Ensure the configuration control baselines and the processes to monitor and check them are complete, and will provide the appropriate levels of evidence for assurance, control and contractual purposes.
Ensure configuration control requirements are correctly flowed down to suppliers and support the review and monitoring of their subsequent performance.
Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for configuration control and baseline management activities.
Work with the In-Service Design Change engineering team and other members of the in-service support organisation to improve own levels of subject matter expertise, including gaining a broad understanding of project management and business processes that will be impacted by the good or bad configuration control processes.
Develop Configuration Management Plans and ensure configuration baselines are correctly established. Be able to pass on information and guidance to project and business teams in order to help grow the understanding of the need to configuration control and the management of baselines.
What BAE Systems are looking for, from you:
Knowledge of how asset hierarchies and breakdown structures including WBS, PBS, BOM are developed and are interdependent, to ensure that the product artefacts and deliverables are managed and controlled in a structured manner.
Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle with some experience of operating in a number of phases.
Have a strong awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, including safety and environmental regulations.
Understand the need, and have awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
Security Requirements: SC, ITAR & UK EYES ONLY
This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a BPSS check as part of this process. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC. In addition, this role involves direct and/or indirect access to ITAR Material which means there are restrictions. The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs).
