Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, focusing on their safety, emotional well-being, and educational growth. You'll work closely with the Head of Learning or a designated teacher to deliver the curriculum both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Students:
- Provide individual or small group support to assist students' physical, emotional, educational, and social development.
- Encourage independent learning through structured activities and programs.
- Build nurturing relationships that boost students' self-esteem, independence, and resilience.
- Promote an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.
Classroom Support:
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering customised lesson plans for students.
- Maintain a well-organised, supportive classroom environment.
- Ensure smooth transitions between different activities throughout the school day.
- Track and report on student progress and achievements.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Supervise students during non-class times, including before and after school and during lunchtimes.
- Assist with school trips and external activities.
- Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- At least one year of experience as a Teaching Assistant or Classroom Assistant.
- Understanding of educational practices related to child welfare and education.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues and work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Additional qualifications in Education.
- Experience with SEMH, ASD, and other special educational needs.
- Proficiency in ICT and a First Aid qualification.
Requirements:
- Adherence to the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Completion of an Enhanced Disclosure check upon appointment.
- Flexibility to attend meetings outside regular school hours when needed.
- Physical capability to engage in Restrictive Physical Interventions if required.
