They are looking for Public Affairs Officer to help deliver on the organisation's strategy, assisting with promoting key policy issues and campaigns, and on communicating the work and priorities of the organisation with key stakeholders, opinion formers and decision-makers Main Duties and Responsibilities Provide comprehensive intelligence and monitoring of business and external events to senior officers and staff, including regular briefings on key issues, as required. Coordinate organisations contributions to answers for Mayor's Questions and briefings for People's Question Time, the State of London Debate and related events. Manage the process for the organisation's responses to external consultations, including informing senior officers of new consultations, maintaining a database of relevant consultations and ensuring responses are submitted to deadline. Develop and maintain lists of key external stakeholders and systems for recording contact and interactions with them. Oversee responses to correspondence and other public affairs enquiries ensuring that they are appropriate, timely and consistent. Work with the public affairs manager to identify opportunities to promote campaigns and work with external audiences. Maintain an up-to-date awareness of the political environment both nationally and locally. Represent the organisation at internal and external events and meetings. Assist and support the public affairs manager in the delivery of any campaigns and activity, carrying out research and attending any public events, as necessary. Conduct desk top research or support any other information gathering exercise and provide administrative support to the public affairs manager, as required. Commission, establish and maintain office systems, both manual and computerised as required, to support the organisations public affairs and external relations activities. To support the public affairs manager with any public affairs activity or external engagement as required. Experience/skills/knowledge Working with a wide range of stakeholders within a large complex organisation or political environment. Analysing information, conducting research and finding positive solutions to challenges. Experience of using a range of IT applications, together with good keyboard skills and an awareness of how IT applications can be used. Experience of working as part of a team with minimal supervision and demonstrating initiative and flexibility in order to deal with a range of tasks. Excellent communication skills, oral and in writing, in order to write reports, minutes and briefings; to liaise effectively with staff at all levels, representatives of external organisations and members of the public. Effective networking and interpersonal skills to develop and promote excellent relationships. Excellent organisational skills in order to manage workloads, work flexibly and on own initiative in a very busy and politicised environment. Good knowledge of political system of the UK, the workings of central government and how policy is made. A general understanding of the workings of London and local government and the wider political environment it operates in. An awareness of issues facing fire and rescue services in the UK.
