Procurement Lead

Gloucestershire

Up to £70K + Benefits

The Company

Our client is a prestigious, global business which designs, manufactures and provides servicing to specialist high value engineered products. With a heritage over a century old, they serve clients across various applications and industries. With manufacturing and service facilities across the world our client is an employer who can offer not only stability but an exciting challenge to really make a positive difference at a global level.

Over recent years, our client has made various changes to rationalise and modernise their processes across the business. This has been an incredibly successful task and due to this, an opportunity to strengthen their group global purchasing effort has now been identified and the role for a Procurement Lead has become immediately available.

The Role

Working closely with the Group CFO, the Procurement Lead will develop and implement global purchasing strategies for high value engineered components needed for the manufacture of their specialised systems. Key components will include engines, motors, control panels, mechanical seals and bearing housings.

In its current form, their Internal Buyers and umbrella company Purchasers buy from a range of suppliers. The key aim is to strengthen and improve this supply chain by forming more robust and strategic partnerships with key suppliers.

Key focus points being:

  • Price
  • Quality
  • Commercial Terms
  • Flexibility
  • Reliability
  • On time Delivery

The key outcome for the role will be to develop an international strategy that gives a purchasing framework to the buyers on various sites to make purchasing smoother and provide maximum buying value. With the current buying system being transactional and fragmented, this strategic shift to more consolidated buying of the key components, will allow for better prices and commercial terms from vendors across the globe.

Historic purchasing data is currently being analysed to begin identifying key gain areas in the supply chain. This data will show key spend against key components and geographical variances. The initial six months of this Procurement Lead role will be focussed on the development of the strategy using this information in conjunction with the CFO.

Once the global strategy has been realised, the role will include:

  • Meeting with suppliers to negotiate on price and commercial terms
  • Identifying opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships with clients
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage international buying power to maximise supply chain value
  • Reviewing supplier performance
  • Identifying new suppliers to reduce risk in the supply chain
  • Working closely with the CEOs and leads in the international sites to understand purchasing issues at local country level.

The Candidate

For this Procurement Lead role the client is looking for a candidate to:

  • To be able to demonstrate how they can strategically leverage value from a supply chain.
  • To have come from an engineering background with exposure to procurement in relation to high value or engineered components.
  • Significant experience within a senior level procurement related role.
  • To be able to act autonomously and to be confident making independent decisions.
  • Have strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Have excellent commercial acumen in relation in procurement terms and conditions.
  •  A supporting qualification.
  • To be comfortable travelling globally with the position with regular trips outside the UK on a monthly basis.

The Package

In return, the successful Procurement Lead can expect a competitive package:

  • £Up to 70k
  • 5% Pension (Increase to 12.5% after 3 years’ service)
  • 25 Days holiday + stats
  • DIS 4x Basic salary
  • Westfield Healthplan
