An organisation that works in a homeless sector is looking for experienced support workers to work in hostels for homeless people in Bristol. This is an ongoing temporary work through an agency.
The roles are night work and project work.
Experience of working with homeless people is desirable.
The goal is to provide high-quality support, care and advice to clients that focuses on their strengths and goals, and is delivered in a suitable way within a framework of active engagement.
The Project Work role includes:
To conduct desktop and formal face to face interviews with prospective clients.
To accompany clients to visits and other services where appropriate
To assist clients in making successful claims for housing benefits, welfare benefits and/or in work benefits as appropriate,
Provide a welcoming, accessible service for clients and other callers as part of this covering a range of office tasks, including dealing with phones, post and all other reception enquiries.
To ensure that rental income is maximised by filling voids promptly and in line with the project's policy
To liaise with Housing Benefit and the Department of Work and Pensions to ensure that clients and the Hostel receive all monies due to them
To keep accurate daily records of petty cash, service charges and other hostel/project monies
To maintain a high standard of record keeping and keep all financial and administrative systems up-to-date and in line with policy.
To ensure that all written work both for internal and external use is of a high standard
To carry out premises inspections, and health and safety inspections and tests, ensuring prompt and accurate record keeping and appropriate follow up of issues.
To respond promptly to reports of maintenance problems, ensuring follow up as appropriate, and in line with the organisation policies.
The Night Worker role includes:
Providing overnight support to clients, and assessing referrals to the service including accepting clients into the service over night. It also requires:
Ensuring that the hostel is kept clean and safe and taking appropriate action to maintain the condition of the building, reporting hostel
Carrying out regular checks in the hostel, checking conditions of all communal
Ensuring the hostel is secure by regular patrols and monitoring external doors and access in and out of the building
Carrying out resident room/flat checks as
Monitoring and reporting on the external environment, including local resident phone calls, and taking appropriate action
Spending time talking to the residents; supporting the Recovery Worker role with clients likely to be seen more at
Dealing with any disputes or emergencies and completing incident
Dealing with telephone and general enquiries and any other general administrative duties
Having an understanding of the needs of the client group and working in an understanding and flexible manner using assessment and evaluation
To update paper and computerised systems and ensure all occurrences throughout the night are recorded
To maintain a friendly and supportive environment within the hostel
