Job title: Engineering Operations Manager

Location: Bicester (Heyford Park) with travel to sites required

Salary: up to £50,000 depending on experience (+ car or car allowance)

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Operations Manager to join us and assist with the cost effective and timely maintenance provision of all mobile units across the group. This role will support the overall delivery of the logistics and transport function, ensuring all agreed service levels are maintained in line with compliance relative legislation.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the fleet maintenance for all Company owned and leased HGV/LGV/Bowser/Van vehicles, ensuring they are all serviced and maintained as required to meet relevant regulatory requirements
  • Manage the effective delivery of 3rd Party engineering suppliers within budget for all Company owned equipment and leased transport (except cars) including:
    • OEM clinical equipment support
    • Trailer fleet maintenance support
    • Provision of suitable trailer parking sites to meet operational needs
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all transport engineering issues ensuring new equipment design and development to meet business needs
  • Lead strategic implementations to support the delivery of a cost effective and fully compliant fleet solution
  • Be accountable for the negotiation with 3rd party vendors to obtain best value, including compensation for performance failure and delivery of full manufacturer warranty obligations
  • Ensure compliance with Domestic and European fleet operating regulations across the business
  • Maintain the relationship with all client and licensed sites in relation to transport and trailer access to ensure that business and customer needs are met
  • Manage the effective execution of all planned schedules for the site within agreed service levels
  • Ensure KPI's are achieved and corrective action is taken in a timely manner where required
  • Ensure the legal responsibilities relating to the Operating Licence are adhered to and appropriate action is taken to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Direct participation in all Health and Safety for the sites, managing any issues through to correction
  • To have an effective involvement in business projects at a local and business wide level as required and directed
  • Contribute to the development of business and operational planning in relation to logistics

We are looking for someone with:

  • A relevant qualification in LGV maintenance (HNC would be preferable)
  • Independent Road Transport Engineer membership (or able to obtain if successful)
  • IOSH health and safety qualification
  • Experience of managing a large fleet operation efficiently and in line with budget
  • Confidence to achieve success when managing 3rd party vendors and suppliers
  • An excellent understanding of the legal regulations that surround fleet maintenance and management
  • A proven track record of leadership with strong people management experience
  • Experience of managing external contracts and suppliers within KPIs
  • Experience of handling large budgets and delivering services within budget

Key skills required:

  • The ability to manage a complex, diverse and time pressured workload
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills in relation to budget management and data analysis
  • Proven people management skills in terms of both day to day performance management and development
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of with confidence and humility
  • Excellent communication skills combined with a natural tendency to openness, transparency and keeping stakeholders informed
  • Clear understanding of how to work within a strong, clearly defined brand
  • Flexibility to travel and work occasional nights / weekends when senior management presence is required

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Driver to join us and assist with the cost effective and timely delivery of our mobile healthcare service. This role will support the overall delivery of the mobile unit function, ensuring all agreed service levels are maintained in line with compliance relative legislation.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Effectively managing the transport team to ensure best utilisation of all resources within the relevant timescales and budgets
  • Owning and manging the relationship with all clients and licensed sites in relation to transport and trailer access
  • Providing 2nd level on-call support (outside working hours) as part of a four-way rota to ensure that central service cover is maintained for emergencies
  • Overseeing day to day activity for a team of drivers that are responsible for the delivery and set up of allocated trailers across the UK
  • Ensuring log book timesheets and all other necessary records are accurately kept and communicated by the drivers
  • Ensuring the KPIs and company objectives are achieved where relevant to the team
  • Leading on and being actively involved in all recruitment required within the driver team, monitoring attrition rates and workforce planning for future recruitment drives
  • Designing and delivering structured induction and training programmes for new drivers, including a review of the company's policies and procedures
  • Developing immediate team members by providing coaching and mentorship
  • Participating in and leading audits, delegating tasks to the team as required
  • Maintaining stock control and being responsible for ensuring consumables and supplies are purchased as and when required
  • Inspecting and correctly reporting all defects on equipment and units handled

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Competent in the procedures required to safely and effectively deliver all required trailers, including relevant equipment husbandry, cleanliness and user maintenance
  • A passionate and committed leader that can motivate, encourage and communicate with staff and colleagues at all levels
  • A people manager who can engage and motivate a team to achieve high results
  • A commercially aware individual with creative thinking
  • Educated and knowledgeable about Health & Safety, the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Principles

In order to apply you must have:

  • A HGV Class 1 Drivers licence with excellent people management skills
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (IT literate, MS office etc)
  • An excellent geographical understanding of the UK
  • Experience of coordinating team rotas and managing individuals' performances
  • Understanding and knowledge of the recruitment process
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to work across a weekend if required
