Finance Business Partner
Reporting to the Reporting Manager
Based in Wilton International, Teesside
Position overview:
Responsible for financial analysis, forecasting and planning to maximise the financial returns from the operational areas in Sembcorp Energy UK including both the Wilton and Flex businesses, reporting to the FP&A UK Manager. The incumbent will be a core member of Sembcorp UK’s Finance team working closely with the operations teams as well as the wider business.
Influence others and present results in an appropriate format to a range of audiences including the board, internal management and customers.
Continually challenge existing reporting solutions and develop innovative and insightful new reports and analysis.
Key responsibilities:
Manage the forward profitability forecast reporting, taking key movements and profit driving variances from both the Wilton and Flex operational teams, and agreeing the monthly profit, balance sheet, inventory, cash-flow, and capital expenditure re-forecast.
Proactively interpret and analyse monthly figures, identify issues and take ownership to resolve these with individual business managers and cost centre owners.
Present and explain financial results, forecasts and KPI’s at business area forums each month, and clearly illustrate the link to and prioritisation of improvements and future value-add opportunities.
Key member of Sub-business area strategy review teams, appraising pricing strategies, new deals and contracts, and providing assistance to business managers to aid profitable growth.
Analyse forecast versus budget for capital and maintenance spend across the UK in order to influence management of resource planning
Identify and track progress of plan to address lost gross margin opportunities with clear criteria to determine order of priority
Clearly identify and flag the link between lost opportunities and efficiencies of assets to the capital and maintenance strategy (i.e. asset life plan)
Working capital and stock – work with operations and maintenance teams to ensure stock levels are aligned to future asset running and maintenance strategy
Partner with operations heads of department to provide ‘expert’ support in the analysis and interpretation of data within their business area, including education and guidance across business areas.
Provide financial analysis for optimal use of resources and asset portfolio (consider all options such as buildings/ utilities assets/ renewables/ attract types of investment/ sell)
Use Price of Non-conformance (PONC) and efficiency results to drive value at both Wilton and Flex
Post investment appraisals of capital projects across Sembcorp Energy UK in order to make recommendations for future improvements
Customer profitability analysis including potential new customers
Customer and commercial interaction - pricing assessment and cost-plus models
Influence Wilton 11 energy-from-waste JV partners to run plant optimally and drive more value
Cost management analysis to assess productivity by department and by employee for benchmarking and driving future value.
Relevant accountant qualification –strong accounting background with minimum three years post qualification experience
Ability to work with strategic concepts and take the lead to drive a company forward.
Clearly measure and articulate the value the role brings to the business.
Excellent communicator – able to articulate complex financial concepts and focus on key outcomes to non-financial background audience
Proficient with technology and use intelligent tools to analyze financial and operational information. For example advanced Excel skills plus process automation solutions are essential
Understand data models, productivity tools and business intelligence solutions
Guide and educate key internal customers across the business
Build relationships as a trusted advisor
Ability to dive into data and succinctly summarise key points to non-finance audience
Curiosity and continuous improvement mindset
Experience of working in the energy sector, and the specific accounting issues related to the industry
Working knowledge of SAP an advantage.
