English GCSE & Functional Skills Teacher | London SE9 | Monday to Friday, between 8.45am and 4pm | 33 hours per week | £26,000 to £46,000 pro rata pa based on experience and qualifications | Term-time only, academic year 24-25 | IMMEDIATE START AVAILABLEOur client is an independent school specialising in providing a nurturing, alternative education for young people aged 11-19 who have experienced disruption to their education, or those with additional needs. They are a small school with only 60 students and a friendly, family-based environment that supports vulnerable young people to achieve outstanding outcomes when they were expected to achieve none.Working in small groups of 5-10 young people, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of an engaging, inspiring Key Stage 3, GCSE English Language and Literature and Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2 courses of study. You will help to ensure that students benefit from their learning and that steady and sustainable improvements are made in overall levels of retention and achievement.You will be a strong communicator with confidence and authority yet able to win the respect of London's urban youth. You do not have to be a qualified teacher and the employer will offer teacher training if required but you must have experience in leading teaching for groups of young people from disaffected communities or with special needs. You should be able to lesson plan and manage a class, and be full of creative ways to engage, motivate and inspire young people. Ideally, you will have taught English up to GCSE to young people. You must be willing to undertake a DBS/police check.Are you the right person for the job?The following criteria are essential for this role Possession of a teaching qualification (Cert Ed) or equivalent or a firm commitment to obtaining oneA Level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalentHave knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' workExperience in delivering a student-centred approach curriculum to students at various levels of learningExperience in supporting students with behavioural difficulties or additional learning needsThe ability to devise exciting and stimulating projects to support student learningThe ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their potentialExcellent communication skills and interpersonal skillsProven organisational and administrative skills and an ability to work to deadlinesThe ability to think creatively and constructivelyA caring and compassionate personaKnowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and othersAvailable IMMEDIATELY or within 3 months Your specific requirements will be To teach students on Key Stage 3 and GCSE English Literature and Language and Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2 courses to include scheduled lectures, demonstrations, remote teaching, tutorials, supervised on/off site study and assessmentTo support existing staff in the development of the curriculum and new projectsUndertake the necessary associated organisation, administration and other responsibilities, including arranging timetables, course publicity, organising the interviewing of prospective students, arranging course review and evaluation and classroom observation and/or studio/workshop managementTo contribute fully as a team member to team meetings, staff development, preparation and educational support activities, assessment, classroom observation, moderation, planning and administrationTo maintain high levels of student retention, and achievement and to support student progressionAssist in further developing educational and community outreach activitiesTo foster our enrichment ethos and support our students across all courses What can you expect in return?
