I'm on the lookout for an IT Support Engineer to join an innovative research and scientific company working in the animal welfare industry. The role is based just outside of Edinburgh and is an opportunity to work with an organisation which is having a positive impact on animal welfare. It is office-based, with some on-call as well, so they're ideally looking for someone already local to the area.

They are a collective group of multiple organisations that help to promote animal health through research and scientific development, so you will support users across different departments within the company.

They have a vibrant social culture within the team and often put on gaming nights and quizzes to help with team-bonding and build on their already-collaborative working environment.

The position is a 1st Line IT Support role where you will be the first point of contact on their IT Service Desk and work with around 180 users. The team is made up of four 'hands-on' Engineers; two 1st Line Engineers and two 2nd Line Engineers, and you will all report to the IT Service Delivery Manager. They mostly work from a ticketing system where you will log the tickets and attempt to resolve them, before escalating to the 2nd Line Engineers as and when required. Saying that, you may also need to resolve issues through phone calls and emails, so excellent communication skills are a requirement for this role.

Although there is an on-call aspect to the job, this is paid and would only begin after you complete your first six months of employment as you'll need to get up-to-speed with their systems and carry out all necessary training.

Other requirements include a knowledge or experience with:

  • Office Applications
  • Microsoft 365
  • Active Directory Domain
  • Working with customer-Facing roles
  • Different Areas of Network (Wired & Wireless)

If you don't have commercial experience in any of these areas but have recently completed an IT-related degree, then I would love to hear from you too - as the organisation are more that happy to help recent graduates upskill for this position.

In return, they're able to offer a salary from £24k to £26k and a generous benefits package which includes a 15% employer pension contribution and 38 days holiday package (including 7 public). They also have on-site catering facilities and their own benefits platform which gives you discounts for food and shopping.

This is a pretty urgent requirement for the team and they're keen to get the right candidate started fairly quickly so they have a really streamlined interview process. This consists of a one stage process where you'll meet the IT Team for some technical and competency led questions and a short discussion with HR.
