As an extremely motivated, hardworking and reliable NQT with high expectations in behaviour, presentation, effort and academic output, along with my experience in year 5, I have proven I can accomplish positive and professional relationships with both staff and children from all backgrounds, needs (such as Social and Emotional, Autism Spectrum Disorder, slow processing, English as an Additional Language and hearing impairments) and abilities. My belief is that positive relationships are built on an understanding of the attributes of the individual child which in turn helps inform meticulous planning, resources and deployment of both myself and the teaching assistant. I use innovative and imaginative ideas which are often cross - curricular throughout lessons in order to promote a love of learning and engage children. I appreciate that each child is an individual and must be treated as one. This may be through a variety of learning styles such as visual, audio or kinaesthetic and differentiation. My behaviour management techniques are tailored for both the class and individuals using reward systems, positive praise and clear rules and routines. These strategies are paramount to promote pupil progress, and along with formative and summative assessments, pupils under my direction have been encouraged to reflect on their own progress and identify gaps for improvements. Various approaches such as a traffic light system and peer assessment give pupils a sense of responsibility and self-development. Throughout my time in induction I found that whilst peer assessment worked it was at its most beneficial when engaging the reluctant learners in the class. Benefitting from a Catholic education, I believe I have a well-developed understanding of the Catholic faith and consider that this should not just be taught in RE in insolation but also instilled into the ethos of the school by collective worships and displays as well as helping children deal with and relate to current issues they might be facing.
