During my time at WPP GroupM (Aug 2012 to Mar 2016) I lead the Global Collaboration Technology Domain, GroupM consisted of a Parent Organisation (GroupM) and multiple competing subsidiaries most notably MediaCom, Mindshare, Maxus & MEC who are considered world leaders in the media communications industry, my total operating footprint consisted of around 36000 end users split across the parent company and its subsidiaries. In this role I reported directly to the GroupM Global CTO and acted as a peer to each of the subsidiaries CIO’s. Within this Global structure I had my own budget for all OPEX and CAPEX areas covered within my domain, this included but was not limited to, all new hires, contractors, outsourcing, services, products, projects, research and development. Determination of how my budget was allocated and utilized was based on my quarterly and annual budget roadmap submissions and presentations supported by my strategic and tactical plans determined through ongoing discussions with all GroupM and its subsidiaries leadership determining ongoing service requirements, enhancements, projects, campaigns, product research and bespoke design innovation. My division consisted of multi-disciplinary teams located globally consisting of business analysts, consultants, project managers and architects, well as my established Agile research and development team operating under BPO based in India, in addition to my 24/7 helpdesk and service team. Some notable services delivered under my leadership include: • Lead 3 major decentralised global data centre migrations to a centralised data centre in Piscataway NJ. • Lead implementation of the SharePoint 2013 Centralised Platform servicing 36000 users globally. • Lead the enterprise decommission and complete data migration from 5 global disparate instances of Jive to a centralised multitenant SharePoint 2013 platform (Included SSO/AAD/AD, O365 & Social Integration). • Rescued 2 failed outsourced Dynamics CRM EMEA implementations by recruiting and consulting with Microsoft through my global team to bring Dynamics CRM services in house. • Migrated, maintained and serviced over 750 global collaboration web sites. • Maintained, enhanced and serviced over 150 global bespoke applications, data and analytics platforms. • Provided global governance, compliance and security guidelines for remote working and external data access. I provided vision and leadership in the development and implementation of information technology and data services throughout the collaborative technology vertical as well as research and development. I lead in planning and implementing solutions to transform service delivery and business operations through more effective and efficient use of technology, leveraging Agile DevOps principles. My average day could consist of numerous activities such as: • Steering responsibility for large projects focused on website & publishing integration along with CMS selection, leveraging platforms such as SharePoint, Jive, Yammer and various CMS platforms, Databases including MSSQL, MYSQL & POSTGRES and supported development languages and API’s. • Managing external project leads through 3rd parties on programs such as the Dynamics CRM implementations and upgrades. • Tactically realising the company's technical vision for the Global Collaboration Domain while leading all aspects of the company's technological development in support of the broader business strategy through ongoing engagement with subsidiary leadership, across research, design and analytics. • Working in a consultative fashion with other global department leads and subsidiary heads, such as marketing, production, information services, research and data analysis and operate as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency, effectiveness and synergies. • Provide leadership and support to senior management for IT projects and daily operations. • Provide architectural input on projects and potential solutions to specific business needs. • Oversee operation and evolution of corporate and client websites and mobile delivery platforms as well as new product offerings from conceptualization to deployment. • Act in the capacity of business enablement and innovation partner to GroupM subsidiaries through facilitating regular collaborative strategic, roadmap and client engagement and enablement discussions facilitating the transition from concept to solution. • Provide accountability for IT projects, operations, quality and relevant budgets. • Manage and develop IT staff with appropriate action and training plans. • Oversee 3rd party IT providers to promote alignment and ensure SLAs are maintained. • Manage external offshore programmers responsible for applications development with substantial experience managing technology competently including demonstrated experience with full software development lifecycles appropriate for small, agile development groups. • Monitor ongoing IT health of the business, including uptime, security, licenses, hardware and related services; address and escalate as needed. • Accountable for IT business continuity, disaster recovery and related planning. • Create and deliver on a company-wide communication plan, including with stakeholders, end users and vendors. • Champion IT and development solutions internally and externally, including via direct customer interactions to develop requirements and determine solutions. • Monitor emerging technologies relevant to the improvement of operations and product offerings. Identify the practical implications of new technologies and relate system capabilities to business goals. Career post GroupM [In March of 2016 as part of the WPP Global IT restructure my entire domain was transferred into IBM (TUPE)] In addition to continuing to maintain leadership of the Global Collaboration Domain and my GroupM role under IBM contract for 1 year of mode of continued operation I was also responsible for the complete transition of the entire global division into IBM, establishing minimal impact ways of working by amalgamating expected continued mode of operation initiatives for WPP with IBM standards and practices. Following 1 year of continued operation, the IBM leadership objectives over the next 6-12 months was: • Outsourcing roles and functions to IBM India. • Completed architectural and operational cataloguing of over 150 global bespoke applications to IBM specified standards. • Define, agree and structure offshore services and execute against global service level agreed commitments (SLA). • Define and implement a business analytics platform to support service level agreements. Following a successful second year at IBM, I had however felt my career path had been derailed in a different direction to that which I had started at GroupM as such in March of 2018 opted for voluntary redundancy to search for an ideal opportunity that would realign my career progression and have been contracting my services out.
