I am a 24-year-old PGCE student in Secondary Religious Studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I gained my BA from Cardiff University in 2017, and worked for two years in a variety of roles in the Leisure Industry in the UK and USA before concluding that I felt suited to a career as a teacher and hence commenced my PGCE. My work in the Leisure Industry put me in contact with a large number of young people, who I came to realise that I have an empathy with. This has been confirmed by my experience in school placements during my PGCE. While I am aware of the pressures of the profession I generally enjoy teaching and find it rewarding, and have received gratifyingly positive feedback from my tutors, mentors, and the classes I have taught. I am therefore looking for a role as an NQT from September, as I intend to make teaching my long term career. Having spent 4 years in Wales as an Undergraduate and PGCE student I am also committed to a long term career in Wales. I grew up in England, my Father is English but my Mother has Welsh as her first language hence I learned some Welsh as a child. As a result of this my Welsh has improved rapidly since I have been living in Wales, but I would like to improve further and hence plan to continue to live and work in Wales. I believe that I can make a wide contribution to life at school as an NQT outside of the classroom too. As well as my academic background and passion for my subject, I also have a lot of leadership experience in sports, leisure, and outdoor education activities. I also played football, netball, and other team sports for my Squadron as part of my activities in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during my time as a Cardiff undergraduate. Outside of school and University, I enjoy outdoor activities such as climbing, swimming, and windsurfing. I have instructor level qualifications in a number of sports. During my PGCE school placements at Sir Richard Gwyn RC High in Barry and Cathays High in Cardiff I taught Religious Studies and associated subjects to varied ability groups. I've taught mainly 11-16 age groups, of varied abilities, with a more limited amount of time teaching KS5. I've received some good feedback from both CMU and school mentors, and good progress reviews which I believe my referees will confirm. I've taught mainly my specialist subject (Religious Studies) in schools so far, but I believe my general grounding in humanities subjects is such that I could teach other subjects such as English, Art, or Philosophy & Ethics as required by the school.
