I work in the law enforcement field which traditionally has not had the best reputation for equality of opportunity. I have sought to challenge that and make my workplace one where people can bring their whole selves to work and I have seen people's personalities and, indeed, output change as a result of, for example, coming out. I have introduced policies such as 'safe to challenge' where everyone now has 'permission' to challenge the way a manager is doing things in a respectful way. I have made the procedure for bringing a complaint of Bullying, Harassment or Discrimination easier to understand and highlighted the importance of raising issues early on as well as the benefits of mediation so that a formal grievance procedure can be avoided. This has worked well, cutting down the time it takes for issues to get resolved as well as reducing the risk of litigation or Employment Tribunals. I've offered awareness raising sessions on things like Imposter Syndrome, talking about race, LGBT+ for managers etc. I am an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development
