I am a highly motivated, ambitious and determined professional who is able to work under my own initiative. My background and the circumstances in which I have been raised have encouraged and enabled me to develop an exceptionally strong work ethic. Due to the beliefs upheld within my family I was deprived of the chance to attend formal education, consequently I learnt English by listening to the radio and taking a keen interest in newspapers and other written media. Despite no advice or guidance I took O Levels in both Law and Government and Politics achieving A and B grades respectively. In this way I managed to obtain a total of 12 O Levels and 5 A Levels, all with excellent grades and all self-taught. Studying for my degree was an intense challenge as I had no formal education and no experience in note taking or coping with the complexities of full-time education. As a wife and mother of two young children, one of whom was seriously ill during my university studies, I frequently missed lectures and contact hours. Under the circumstances I feel that missing a 2:1 class degree by two credits is a reflection of my determination to succeed rather than any reflection on my academic abilities. I was called to the Bar in March 2003; however, due to further adverse familial circumstances was unable to immediately look for pupillage. I did however apply for St. Mary's Chambers in Nottingham and was shortlisted as one of two finalists with my application being described as ``a breath of fresh air''. I have had countless opportunities within my personal life to develop key interpersonal skills as I have had to negotiate, placate, cajole, appease and mediate in a variety of circumstances, all of which have equipped me for a successful legal career. In my local community knowledge of English can be exceptionally limited and I have been called upon to act as spokesperson on innumerable occasions, including holding positions of responsibility and authority with recalcitrant Islamic societies and the Asian Women's Movement.
