I have spent over twenty years in local government, I graduated university with a degree in leisure management. On leaving university, I worked in London in administration roles at Inmarsat. From there I took a role as a library assistance, within two years I was promoted to a community librarian. Where I managed a part-time branch and assisted the running of a full-time branch. From there I was head hunted to work in the councils contact centre, where I dealt with enquires by telephone and email, I specialised in general, leisure, waste, highways enquiries. In this role and the library roles I gained valued customer care skills. From there I took a secondment in the community development team, where I was the community halls manager, this role become permanent. I managed 12 community centres and a team of full-time and sessional staff. I would oversee the community booking for Saturdays, this would take the initial enquiry via the contact centre, conform the booking, take payments, and return deposits. Allocated staff to cover the bookings, processing time sheets. I also gained experience in budget and asset management. During in council re-structure my role was transferred over leisure service, where I continued to manage the hall before they were transferred over the community association to run. I then took on projects within the leisure service team, from setting up splash park in barking park, working on the 2012 Olympics as were host borough. After this I supported the manager of leisure centre in the day to day running of the centre. I then took a secondment within the facilities team as Principal facilities officer where I assisted the facilities manager in the running of councils civic and satellite buildings. I managed the team of facilities officer for those building, I would oversee all planned and essential maintenance, managed the room bookings, incoming and outgoing post, special events. Keep update record for health and safety, fire risk assessment and fire +alarm testing, L8 water and asbestos monitoring. I would assist in building move and referments of office space within the buildings. After a restructure, my substantive was no longer available and the secondment ending, I took a role within the council print service, which was over taking the councils, in and out going post and looking to moving over to digital service. The service was finally outsourced in 2020. The experience gained within the local government environment has stood me in good stead and I want to increase my knowledge further. I would like to seek a new challenge within the public, voluntary and private sectors.
