    Chief Electrician

    2016 - Present

Transocean - Chief Electrician - Transocean 712 North Sea Drilling I was employed as the Chief Electrician on the Transocean 712 semi-submersible drilling rig, which unfortunately lost its contract due to Covid 19 and was then recycled by the company, resulting in mass redundancy of the whole crew. ------- As Chief Electrician I was directly responsible for all electrical, electronic, instrumentation and controls on the rig. I had an Electronic Technician and a Rig Electrician reporting directly to me and I was the most senior electrical person on the drilling rig. I was responsible for ensuring all preventative maintenance tasks and installations or upgrades were carried out to the standards set by the company and myself by planning and implementing work scopes accordingly to ensure completion, whilst ensuring all repairs and defects were dealt with quickly, efficiently and safely. I was also responsible for the rig Permit to Work system for any work being carried out in electrical areas and also all Electrical Energy Isolations. I also ensured my department fully understood and implemented all company Health and Safety policies as required and that the unit had a full compliment of necessary spares and consumables as required but also working to tight budgetary requirements to achieve this. As well as ensuring that my personnel were working safely and carrying out PM tasks to standard, I also ensured that they were trained fully in what I expected from them as part of my department, also giving training to them myself to achieve this aim.

    Chief Electrician

    2013 - 2016

Chief Electrician - Sedco 714 North Sea Drilling I was employed as the Chief Electrician aboard Transocean's semi-submersible drilling rig the Sedco 714. Following the downturn in the Oil industry in 2015 and the unfortunate cold stacking of the Sedco 714, I was transferred to the Transocean 712. As the only Electrical person from the 714 not to be made redundant I happily accepted the position. My work details aboard the 714 as Chief Electrician are as above in my description of being Chief Electrician on the Transocean 712.

    Transocean - Rig Electrician

    2012 - 2013

Sedco 714 North Sea Drilling ------- I was employed by Transocean on the Sedco 714 semi-submersible drilling rig as a Rig Electrician. I was directly responsible for all electrical and electronic work carried out on the rig during the night shift. This included carrying out all preventative maintenance tasks as well as keeping rig downtime to a minimum when breakdowns occurred. I was the responsible person for all energy isolations and for issuing permit to works for my area. I also ensured that all necessary spares and consumables were kept up to date through ordering as and when required. I also participated in all health & safety aspects on the rig. CAREER SUMMARY (CONT)

    Senior Electrical Control Systems Engineer

    2009 - 2012

Finesse Control Systems - Arbroath, Angus - Senior Electrical Control Systems Engineer ------- I was employed as Senior Electrical Control Systems Engineer with Finesse Control Systems who are specialists in Industrial Automation, Process Control & Systems Integration. They provide a range of Electrical Engineering services for the Offshore Industry as well as onshore sites. This ranges from FEED consultancy through to design, manufacture, install, commissioning and HAES (Hazardous Area Equipment Survey). As the Senior Engineer I was in charge of a small team of engineers and electricians and oversaw all aspects of our projects from conception through to commissioning. As an offshore service engineer, I have visited various installations in the UK, Dutch and Danish sectors and have also provided service for Technip UK Ltd and their various vessels. Offshore companies that I have provided services for include Maersk, Talisman, Technip, GSP & Nobel Oil

    Electrical/Instrument Process Technician

    1998 - 2009

Having served my apprenticeship and having held the Maintenance Electrician's post I was promoted to the post of Process Technician in 1998. I held this position until the unfortunate closure of Curtis in July 2008, although I was retained for 4 weeks after the closure as the Electrical Engineer for de-commissioning and site services, such as re-distribution of electrical powers supplies. Through my work in the Paper Mill I acquired a broad and varied knowledge of Electrical Systems, Instrument and Control as well as some Mechanical experience. I was one of four Engineers employed to provide 24/7 shift cover for all Electrical and Instrumentation systems within the mill, with sole responsibility on night shift and part of the day shift. As well as maintenance of all Electrical equipment fault finding and keeping downtime to a minimum was an essential part of the job requirement. This often meant thinking on your feet as there was not always an electrical drawing to work from to achieve a solution.

    Apprentice

    1992 - 1998

The first year of my apprenticeship was served at Tayside Training Services in Dundee. This provided basic skills in electrical, welding, milling, turning, fitting and sheet metal work. This was followed by 6 months intensive electrical training. The remaining three years of my apprenticeship was spent learning the trade from colleagues in the Process Technicians and Maintenance Electrician positions.
