Self-care During Lockdown

Posted by: Allah Ditta Ad | Nov 11, 2020

It’s strange how you’ll have a lot more time to look after ourselves working from home but aren’t… this is simply because we aren’t used to working from home, we’re thrown out of routine and easily get lost wondering how we managed to get anything done.

Taking Regular Breaks

Taking regular breaks helps you focus more throughout the day and for good reason. Your mind is designed to only be able to intensely focus for a short duration of time, ideally, you want no more than 25-30mins per focus session.

Breaking your focus helps you unwind and reduces stress, allowing you to focus for more of the day and still have the energy to work throughout the day. BUT that doesn’t mean not working at all, remember, you still have a job to do…

Shower

Now this may sound like the obvious, but it’s easily forgotten or ignored, especially if you’re living alone and it’s also winter, so you’ll likely not feel like needing a shower. Yes, this is quite common, don’t be so surprised.

Showering refreshes the body as well as your mind, showering is a very effective destress method and in general, people are happier after a shower. Also, when you lift your arms you don’t smell.

Exercise

Not everyone’s favorite I know but it’s necessary. If you’re no longer commuting to work, it means your body is moving less which can affect your overall physic tremendously and 4 weeks is no short period. Also, let’s not forget that exercising releases happy endorphins!

To avoid negatively impacting your health, simple exercises or morning walks do the trick well. You don’t need a home gym, not even much space you don’t even need to call it exercise, dancing for a good 10mins works just fine.

Socialise

Introvert or extrovert, we all need some form of human interaction but since you can’t get it physically during the lockdown, there are online options and no I’m not talking about Tinder.

Any company working from home should have a form of online communication for their employees, be it Skype, Teams, Slack, Discord, or any other platform. Socialising is a great way to stay sane and in general happy.

Speaking of Discord, we have made a discord community open to any professional who wants to join. https://discord.gg/b6NAeS9bpc

Eat Healthily

You do not have an excuse anymore, you’re in the comfort of your own home, you can make something healthy.

I’m going to keep this simple. You put bad things in your body, you get lazy, have no energy, no motivation, and are generally in a bad mood. Put good things and it’s the exact opposite.

Also, whilst you’re home why not try something new, cook or order something new, this is your chance to explore, you never know, you might discover a new favorite.

Well that’s about it from me, I hope you will take on board at least one of the above things, to be honest I know I’m going to struggle with the exercising bit, let’s hope you have better luck than me…
