How To Get Started Working From Home #Movember

Posted by: Manar Al-Muflahi | Nov 4, 2020

We’re going into lockdown soon, last one was a mess for me but this time I’m definitely prepared. But for those that need a little help, I made this blog for you.

What you need to be aware of this lockdown.

  • Keeping your work routine
  • Dedicated workspace
  • Eating healthy
  • Task lists
  • Exercising
  • Socialising
  • STOP WORKING

So above is the tl;dr, to keep yourself healthy physically and mentally. Read below why you need to be aware of all of the above.

Keep Your Work Routine

Keep waking up early, get ready in the morning as you normally would because this is what triggers your body to get into work-mode. If you introduce a change, waking up late, not getting changed out of your PJs, not opening your blinds etc. you body won’t know it’s time to work, making you tired all day and not productive.

So keep that routine and stay productive!

Dedicated Workspace

Whatever you do, please please have a dedicated workplace for your 9-5! I cannot stress this enough. Just because you’re home doesn’t mean you don’t need a workspace, be it a sofa, a desk or an office room, at least this way your work and home are separated.

This will help you focus and be less distracted by your surroundings.

Eating Healthy

Not that I ever ate healthy at work, was mostly sandwiches and crisps, but working from home meant that I could actually cook food. This also gives you a break from working during lunch, which is different from taking lunch at work... at my desk... lol

Anyway! Use this time to organise your eating and watch what you eat, your body is a temple, look after it.

Task List

I’ll keep this simple. Create a task list so that you’re always busy and can tick off tasks to know how much you’ve done.

Ticking things off the task list feels soooooooooooo good.

Exercise

I personally can’t commit to proper exercise, but I can dance. For those who can and like it, good on you, for those like me, what I would suggest is music in the morning and just shake it! It’s fun, it gives you so much energy and in general makes you happier.

Moving releases happy chemicals in your brain.

Socialising (not physically)

We as humans are social beings, we need to interact with others to stay sane and mentally healthy, introverts and extroverts alike. What I recommend is having an online social circle you can interact with, you don’t even have to speak to anyone much, but seeing them online helps tremendously.

Join our discord, you can meet new people, we have chat channels and music bot channels.

STOP WORKING! I mean it.

Yes, you’ve been working all day, don’t work outside of your work hours, this is a slippery slope and you’ll burn out super quickly. Avoid that by keeping an eye on the time and stopping when it’s home time, don't burn yourself out.

Just remember to actually do work during work hours otherwise you basically were home all day.

Well that’s about it! Hopefully this helped, and I know, even though this sounds so simple, it’s very easy to forget or dismiss, so the last piece of advice I can give you is, be patient and stick to your guns otherwise it could be just like the last lockdown and we all know how that went LOL
