Disbursements were drawn on claimant’s accounts to support lawsuits by the acting Solicitor, which was then paid back after damages were awarded. For a number of reasons, ‘no win, no fee’ claims began to dissolve and many claims were not settled. As a result, a large number of law firms were held liable for the loans taken out in order to fund such claims, although chance of recovery was slim. Abbey had given the order to collect as much debt as possible as they brought the subsidiary to a close. After initially being drafted in, I was quickly promoted to my position working directly with the CEO and the in-house legal team to recover all outstanding monies. The promotion came after demonstrating excellent communication and negotiation skills along with the ability to handle customers and clients at multiple levels. This was an opportunity that only I received. Some of my responsibilities included: Dealing with complex and highly sensitive situations that could result in the loss or gain of extraordinary amounts of money, it was imperative that I fully understood the parameters and unique legal issues around each situation. Being able to draw on that knowledge to reach a mutually beneficial agreement was both challenging and highly rewarding. Some of my responsibilities included: Investigating and resolving disputes within strict time limits Communicating with relevant merchants to obtain evidence and proof of purchase Executing over 100 queries per day with precision for amounts ranging from £1 to 100,000 with full responsibility for monies saved and lost BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING Along with ongoing, in house training covering customer service, sales and recruitment techniques, I attended a three day, intensive training course from the industry guru, Mike Walmsley.
