EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Summer 2009 Full time Child Carer, Altrincham During the summer, I had sole responsibility for looking after two children aged six and eight, while their parents were at work. Duties included preparing meals, taking them on outings, bathing them and completing summer homework with them, with the overall aim of keeping them safe at all times. Summer 2008 Total Marketing, Preston I was responsible for selling AXA health insurance in shopping centres in the North West of England in groups of approximately six people, led by a group leader. Through working in sales, I have acquired customer service skills and strong communication skills. Additionally I have learnt time management skills in learning to assess the likelihood of people buying the product. Summer 2007 Ashfields Solicitors, Stockport (Work experience) I assisted a lawyer specialising in road traffic accidents and my day to day tasks involved reading through lengthy case material and attending informal meetings and seminars with the partner. Through working here, I was able to see what prospects were available to me once I qualified and to me this was a huge motivator. I am planning to do more work experience in the next few weeks at Ashfields as it would be interesting to have worked there both sides of my university career. Summer 2006 Dental Surgery Receptionist, Manchester Duties included answering the phone, making appointments, dealing with suppliers and dealing with patients’ queries. I was put in a position of responsibility being left to access the safe and have access to confidential financial patient information. 2005- Present Child care, A. PERSONAL PROFILE My interests include travel, skiing, fashion and socialising. I have a particular interest in travel and have used my vacations to indulge this passion. In 2007 I organised and self-financed an inter-railing trip with three friends. We visited Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. In 2008 I volunteered at a baby orphanage in Tanzania and whilst there visited the island of Zanzibar. The benefits I derived from Tanzania include the fact that I was able to perform my duties well in difficult conditions and being able to assimilate well into a group who had been working together for some time. Whilst at university I particularly enjoyed being a member of Leeds Law Society and Leeds Snow riders. Social events and a ski trip to France meant that I met students from other departments. I am a passionate, motivated person with proven customer service skills and willing to grasp chances to immerse myself in as many different areas and opportunities in life as possible.
SKILLS PROFILE Business Knowledge and Awareness My degree has allowed me to have access to different areas of the whole business environment giving me the chance to develop new skills that broadened my interests. I scored 90/90 on my A-level Economics and Business Studies Coursework module and also achieved the highest mark in the year (118/120) for the final synoptic Business Knowledge Paper. Team working skills My degree regularly required me to work in smaller, focused groups on a more complex task. Group essays, for example, require negotiation skills in order to meet a word limit whilst at the same time allowing relevant ideas and input equally from each individual. Effective Communication and persuasive skills Being part of an assessed work group containing two members whose first languages were Chinese and Russian allowed me to demonstrate effective correspondence skills in both oral and written communication. My time in Tanzania also helped me improve my communication skills greatly. An Enterprise Team I was involved with developed my diplomatic and personal skills, working in a bigger group than normal also allowing me to learn how to articulate and construct my ideas in a way that persuaded the other members of the team to agree. Positions of responsibility Mentoring younger children from a deprived area in Manchester whilst studying for my A-levels, devising imaginative approaches to learning. I have a Junior Sports Leadership Award and a Community Sports Leadership Award which have enabled me to organise and referee tennis tournaments in my local area. Captain of Manchester High School U16 Netball Team. Written Communication I have excellent written communication skills that have been developed through writing a variety of reports and essays including an eight thousand word dissertation. Number and IT skills Excellent numerical skills (A* in Mathematics GCSE and A in A-level Physics) Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Key Stage IT course passed at school.
